Sofi's treat

Vivian Suter, Sofi's Treat, 2020

Edition of 30
Medium: Etching
Size: 40x29cm

Argentine-Swiss artist Vivan Suter (b. 1949, Buenos Aires), lives and works in Panajachel, Guatemala, in the midst of the jungle beside the volcanic lake Atitlán. Drawing inspiration from the lush plants, vibrant flowers, birds and constantly changing weather of this tropical habitat, her mixed media abstract paintings evoke the living energy of the forest: large, unstretched canvases are swathed in colour, gestural brushstrokes and organic motifs. Removed from the tropical setting in which it was conceived, this print bears witness to its unique environment at a time of renewed focus on this vital but increasingly vulnerable ecological resource.

Vivian Suter was born 1949, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Recent solo exhibitions include: Vivian Suter: Wolf’s Hour, Gladstone Gallery, Brussels, 2021; Tin Tin’s Sofa, Camden Art Centre, London, 2020; Bonzo’s Dream, Brücke Museum, Berlin, 2020; Vivian Suter, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, 2019; Vivian Suter, Tate Liverpool, United Kingdom, 2019; Nisyros, Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg, 2019; Vivian Suter, Gladstone Gallery, New York, 2019; La Canícula, The Power Plant, Toronto, Canada, 2018; Vivian Suter: el bosque interior, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, 2018; Vivian Suter: Bilder 1988-2018,” Stampa Galerie, Basel, Switzerland, 2018
