This edition was created on the occasion of Christodoulos Panayiotou's exhibition Act II: The Island, at Camden Art Centre in 2019. It developed from a new work Untitled (September, October, November, December, January…). Comprising five hand blown glass vases, one for each month the exhibition, Panayiotou designated a specific flower for each month: Dahlias for September, Fresias for October, Chrysanthemums for November, Amarylis for December and Carnations for January. He then asked Camden Art Centre to place a single flower stem in the vase every morning. Over the course of the month, the vase gradually filled with flowers, and as they wilted and died they formed a kind of calendar, marking each day, each moment and the passing of time. During the installation of the exhibition, Panayiotou decided to locate the work in Camden Art Centre’s ‘Drawing Studio’, a space which is normally closed during exhibitions and used for courses, classes, life-drawing and school workshops. By opening this room up to the public he revealed a very beautiful but usually hidden space, a place of making, of looking and of thinking. Once the work was in place he asked whether we could arrange a workshop in the studio where amateur artists of all ages – our course participants and locals – could come in and draw the vase of flowers, producing a series of ‘still life’s’ of the work. We decided to arrange the workshop for the last day of October when the vase was full of Fresias, the flower Panayiotou designated to that month. The result is an extraordinary new work, a portfolio of 31 drawings co-authored by Panayiotou and the artists who attended the workshop. Each is different in style and attitude, but each speaks again to that moment – a record of the original work which becomes an extension of it: 31 drawings for the 31 flowers and the 31 days of October. It sits within the often collaborative processes of many of Panyiotou’s other works, and like them it draws on a very particular art historical tradition, this work draws on the long tradition of the ‘still-life with flowers’.

Solo exhibitions of Panayiotou's work have been held (amongst others) at the 56th Venice Biennial, The Cyprus Pavilion; Camden Art Centre, London; Musée d’Orsay, Paris; Casa Luis Barragán, Mexico City; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Kunsthalle Zürich; Casino Luxembourg; CCA Kitakyushu; Museum of Contemporary Art, St. Louis; Museum of Contemporary Art, Leipzig; Centre d’Art Contemporain de Brétigny; and at Point Center of Contemporary Art, Nicosia. In 2019 he collaborated on the conception of the Emma Kunz - Visionary Drawings exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery.
