Hope Wolf is Senior Lecturer in Modernism at the University of Sussex, Co-Director of the Centre for Modernist Studies and Associate Director of the Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research. She previously worked at the University of Cambridge and King’s College London. A Tale of Mother’s Bones: Grace Pailthorpe, Reuben Mednikoff and the Birth of Psychorealism is based on her research into the joint biography of Pailthorpe and Mednikoff. She first showed their work in Sussex Modernism: Retreat and Rebellion (Two Temple Place, 2017). She is now working on two books: one, branching from her 2017 exhibition, compares different forms of modernist utopianism and examines the regional and local dimensions of modernist practice; the other will be a longer study of psychoanalysis, Surrealism and the occult in the life and work of Pailthorpe and Mednikoff.
