Romanian artist Anca Benera works in a range of media, spanning video, performance and sculpture. Her practice focuses on storytelling and re-construction, and uses the public realm as both a resource and a medium to present and inform her projects, which are themselves rooted in the use of collective spaces. Benera co-founded the Centre for Visual Introspection, a unique artists’ collective in Bucharest in 2007, for the support and presentation of socially engaged visual arts.
For her residency at Camden Arts Centre Benera develops work as part of an ongoing research project, interpreting sculptural occurrences and interventions in the public domain as key works from art history.
In London the project manifests itself as photographs, film and narrative transcriptions of incidental actions and scenarios, drawing out their performative qualities and art historical resonance.
This residency is a collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute.
