This photograph was taken at a Potash mine in Utah and is part of a larger series and film. The salt, which here forms an ancient tomb-like structure, could be confused with ice. The hand-painted section draws attention to the materiality of the print itself, and the image demonstrates the play of light and space that is typical in Dean’s work. An Aside, a group exhibition selected by Tacita Dean was shown in 2005.
