Orla Barry works in a broad range of media including photographs, sound and collected objects, but central to her practice is language, written and spoken. Strongly poetic, lyrical and evocative, Barry’s work offers an insight into the richness and complexity of human emotions and experiences. In A Tear for a Glass of Water, 1997 – 99, a 31 minuet video projection, a women speaks to the camera recounting stories and remembering encounters in an intense and unbroken narrative. The piece was originally shown at Manifesta 2 in Luxembourg, but has been re-worked and expanded for this exhibition. A section of Barry’s text-based works can be read in the Foyer.
